Athletics Field Manager
Springfield College invites applications for a full-time Athletics Field Manager for the Department of Facilities & Campus Services.
This position is responsible for the safe, professional, reliable, efficient, environmentally-sound, and cost-effective maintenance of the athletics field and grounds on the Springfield College campus.
Responsibilities include: prepare, maintain, and repair athletic fields (natural grass and synthetic surfaces) for NCAA, club, academic, and college supported events; schedule and coordinate with Athletics Dept. regarding field use, preparation, maintenance, repairs, and coverage; manage fields and playing surfaces with continuous inspections and through fertilization; restore fields damaged by weather, use, or other conditions to a level commensurate with that expected of Division III athletic programs and supervise the conversion and protection of athletic fields during special events; oversee the inventory, maintenance of equipment and supplies to minimize repair costs; perform turf mowing, landscaping and turf, garden, tree maintenance as part of the Grounds Department; perform all grounds related tasks including but not limited to: raking, weeding, sweeping, shoveling, plowing; support the activities of the Grounds Department, staff, other personnel, and contractors to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of campus grounds and facilities. Assist in the supervision of student workers and outside contractors.
Qualifications include a Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Athletic/Sports Turf Management, related degree, or equivalent combination of work experience (including specialty in a trade) and training is preferred and a minimum of four (4) years' relevant experience in athletic/sports turf management, or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight (8) years' experience with the knowledge, skills and abilities typically associated with turf, sports, field maintenance oversight.
Experience at an independent school, college, or university is preferred. Ability to demonstrate proper judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting; possess good organizational/priority management/oral communication skills, administrative and computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office; work effectively with minimal supervision, have initiative, be a self-starter, and strong attention to detail; meet the physical requirements of the job including but not limited to walking around campus, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds or platforms, lifting/carrying heavy objects and working in confined spaces. Pesticide applicator or operator's license required or ability to attain within 6 months. Possession of a valid driver's license. Certified Sports Field Manager (CSFM) or Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA) preferred. Background check required.
