The School of Public Health & Health Sciences Chief Undergraduate Advisor (CUA) provides the leadership and oversight for a comprehensive academic advising program for Public Health Sciences (PHS) with 850+ undergraduate students. The CUA is responsible for administering the PHS advising programs, establishing advising policies, developing and implementing student advising programs, supervising and training Peer Advisors, problem-solving to respond to student needs, and fostering institutional development in advising and career development. The CUA will provide advising services to all PHS undergraduate students regarding fulfillment of the major and University requirements, academic regulations and policies and resolution of academic challenges.
The CUA needs to regularly collaborate with three departments in SPHHS (Biostatics and Epidemiology, Environmental Health Sciences, and Health Promotion and Policy).Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Public Health Sciences or related field with 3 years of experience in Academic advising in Higher Education or Student Services
Master's degree in Public Health Sciences or related field plus 1 year of experience in Academic advising in Higher Education or Student Services (preferred).
Required to work some nights and some weekends .
In Addition, the following skills are
Experience with academic advising, working with students with a range of academic abilities (honors level, disciplines, at-risk).
- Ability to work independently, self-directed, organized, goal oriented, high level of initiative, creativity, and motivation.
- Ability to work with confidential material and maintain student confidentiality at all times and to manage multiple, complex tasks within short time frames.
- Demonstrated leadership skills that facilitate effective communication and interpersonal relationships with all constituents (students, parents, faculty, administration).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite and database systems.
- Able to carry 15-20 pounds of materials to/from events.
