Requirements

Role Objectives: 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
<ul>
<li>Secondary responsibility for Quality Control Department (verification, review, approval &amp; release) including Quality testing. Performs Quality functions related to shipping, as needed</li>
<li>Key member of Proteins Division Quality Unit (PDQU)</li>
<li>Accurately analyzes and performs chemical testing of FG, in-process batches, raw materials, according to established standards</li>
<li>Accurately maintains and updates Quality control data base on a daily basis</li>
<li>As part of PDQU, tracks, investigates and reports deviations from established Quality Control Standards</li>
<li>Participates in cross-functional teams to increase efficiency, solve problems and improve quality systems</li>
<li>Secondary responsibility for approval and release of incoming raw materials, maintenance of RM data base and related specifications</li>
<li>Assists with aseptic sampling of products, labeling and proper storage of retains</li>
<li>Become fully trained on PD products, including Specifications, methods and equipment</li>
<li>Member of team who evaluate and respond to quality issues presented by customers</li>
<li>Ability to use and maintain analytical equipment necessary for quality testing</li>
<li>Follow safe laboratory guidelines and plant safety protocols</li>
<li>As part of PDQU, maintains equipment, calibrations, and documentation according to SOP &amp; Work Instructions, following ISO and GMP protocols</li>
<li>Maintains Quality Control objectives, complementary to corporate policies and goals</li>

Job Description
Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL) invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Research Scientist in the Multiphysical Systems Group. Current areas of interest include physics-based modeling and numerical simulation of thermofluid and mechatronic systems, control system design and development, nonlinear state estimation, and applications of machine learning. Successful candidates will be expected to perform original, relevant research in the areas of nonlinear state estimation and system inversion for complex multiphysical systems.
The Multiphysical Systems Group at MERL conducts fundamental, academically-oriented research in model-based design and analysis of complex multiphysical systems, emphasizing thermofluid, electrical power, and mechatronic applications. Using state-of-the-art languages, we construct system-level dynamic models and use them to design new estimation and control algorithms, analyze dynamic behaviors, optimize product performance, and prototype new products and services that are enabled by these tools and methods. Current research interests include data-driven optimization and estimation for large-scale, nonlinear system models, development of next-generation tools for scientific computing, and design and analysis of robust nonlinear control and model predictive control. Specific areas of interest include state and parameter estimation for physics-based models comprised of hybrid (discrete and continuous state) nonlinear differential algebraic equations, particle filtering and ensemble estimation methods, variational methods for data assimilation and model inversion, and other cutting-edge estimation technologies. The successful candidate will bring an independent research agenda and a track record commensurate with experience and be capable of working within interdisciplinary R&amp;D teams.
Responsibilities for this position include:

<li>Conducting innovative and relevant research on modelling, estimation and control for multiphysical systems</li>

Qualifications for this position are:

<li>Extensive experience with physics-based modeling, simulation, and dynamic analysis of multiphysical systems</li>
<li>Expertise in thermofluid systems is preferred, but background in mechatronic or other systems will also be considered</li>

<li>A strong publication record in leading conferences and journals, consistent with experience</li>

The pay range for this position at the commencement of employment is expected to be between $135,000 and $170,000 per year. Actual base pay will depend on a variety of individualized factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
