Trilingual Medical Interpreter - Spanish/Portuguese (Full-Time) | FQHC
Location: New Bedford, MA
Salary: $20.66 - $26.00/hour
Schedule: Monday-Friday 10:00am-6:30pm + Rotating Saturdays
About the Role
New Bedford Community Health is seeking a Certified Medical Interpreter fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese to provide critical language services to our diverse patient community. Join our mission-driven team delivering comprehensive healthcare to underserved populations.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate medical interpretation between healthcare providers and non-English speaking patients
- Translate Health Center materials and patient communications
- Contact patients regarding test results, appointments, diagnoses, and treatment instructions
- Support clinical teams with patient education and procedure explanations
- Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
Required Qualifications
Certifications:
Medical Interpreter Certification in Spanish OR Portuguese (required)
Commitment to obtain second language certification within first year
Language Skills:
Fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese (written and verbal)
Strong medical terminology knowledge
Experience:
2+ years professional translation/interpretation experience
OR 4 years college-level language coursework
Education:
High school diploma or GED
Business school or equivalent preferred
Technical Skills:
Microsoft Office proficiency
EMR experience (Epic, eClinicalWorks preferred)
