Position Summary:

We're looking for an R&D Technician to join our team of technicians, scientists, and engineers who are committed to transforming science into commercial reality.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Learn to operate & troubleshoot lab instruments (e.g. pH meters, refractometers, titrators, etc.) and pilot plant equipment (e.g. pasteurizer, carbonator, filter press, etc.) to produce reliable results.
  • Learn the fundamentals of development software to create batch sheets, record test results and applicable notes.
  • General support of R&D including equipment maintenance and calibration, receiving, restocking inventory, and labeling and packing samples.
  • Lead equipment cleaning activities in accordance with GMPs.
  • Manage stocking of lab supplies and ingredients, coordinating orders and deliveries as necessary to ensure lab and pilot plant are fully stocked.
  • Cross train in facilities for shipping, receiving, and building operations.
  • Work with scientists and engineers to create experiments, execute work and manage recording of analytical data.
  • Deliver results during product testing, batching, production runs, sensory studies and document the testing results.
  • Conduct batching, production, and testing of food and beverage products on the lab bench or in the pilot plant to meet project objectives and in accordance with HACCP and GMP requirements.

WHO YOU ARE:

An ideal candidate:

  • Interest in packaging and running packaging studies
  • Is familiar with set up, operation, and shutdown of processing equipment and relevant analytical instruments including refractometers, titrators, and pH meters.
  • Has a good working knowledge of laboratory best practices and safety measures including appropriate PPE usage, chemical handling skills, and GMPs. HACCP experience a plus.
  • Able to adhere to guidelines and follow processing equipment operating procedures.
  • Able to solve machine / mechanical problems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to manage time well and work independently.
  • Able to collaborate with internal partners.
  • Demonstrate precise, autonomous, organized, detailed and efficient work.
  • Able to adhere to guidelines, follow procedures and utilize resources to find information.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Monday – Friday primarily onsite
  • 1+ years of lab experience in a relevant technical field (pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences, chemical / engineering). Experience in food & beverage preferred.
  • Associate's degree in a relevant technical field preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams.
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment safely.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time.

The anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 non-exempt, annually for US-based employees. This range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position across all US locations, is based on a full-time work schedule, and is Welch's good faith estimate as of the date of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for participation in a bonus plan.
