The Boston Globe is looking for an experienced reporter who can break news, write features, and become a go-to, trusted source for women’s sports news in Boston.

Responsibilities:

  • Report and write timely features, cover games and team news, and own the women’s sports beat.
  • Create content for a variety of platforms, including social media, video, and others.
  • Travel for games and other reporting opportunities.
  • Flexible schedule: Working nights, weekends, and holidays as needed based on team/league schedules is required.
  • Work collaboratively with other Globe sports reporters, as well as with department leadership, copy desk editors, and content producers.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience as a reporter or content producer covering sports, with preference given to those with experience covering women’s sports.
  • Entertaining, informative, and engaging writing style free of factual, grammatical, and other errors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of, and demonstrated use of, best practices for digital journalism.
  • Ability to hit all deadlines with clearly written and error-free content, as well as ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to create content without the benefit of access to team personnel, such as off-day stories, explainers, and other story forms.
  • Ability to develop sources throughout the beat, consistently break news, and thrive under the pressure of a highly competitive media environment.
  • Ability to spot and develop content about trends, team dynamics, and other story lines that emerge both on and off the field.
  • Ability to use online metrics and analytics to inform coverage decisions and content priorities.
  • A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment

The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move.

The hourly rate for this role is $38.41 - $61.53.

This position is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Boston Newspaper Guild.
