Job Description

Job DescriptionBe the link between production, carriers, and customers

Nearly a century after Alfred Fain opened a small Rhode Island tire shop, Teknor Apex has grown into a global leader in custom compounding with operations across the U.S., Belgium, Singapore, Germany, and China. Still privately held, we value long-term relationships and a team-first mindset.

“Manufacturing is a team sport and we work together to achieve our goals.” ~ Jon FainA day in the life

It’s 7:30 AM and you’re reviewing open orders with production to ensure materials are ready for on‑time shipment. You update the shipping schedule, confirm delivery appointments, and quote freight so customer service can finalize ship dates. Mid-morning, you coordinate with multiple 3PLs and customer-selected carriers, balancing dock capacity and documenting detention where needed. Throughout the day you dispatch drivers, check trucks in and out (weighing them when directed), and stay in sync with our security team at the gate to keep yard traffic flowing. As orders complete, you verify paperwork accuracy, track shipments, and prepare reports for traffic, shipping, and customers. Before you wrap, you look ahead—planning load sequences for tomorrow and adjusting for any service delays.

What you'll do

  • Manage orders end-to-end—from planning through completion—ensuring on-time, accurate shipments.
  • Serve as the communication hub among shipping, production, sales, customer service, and carriers.
  • Quote freight, secure transportation, and track loads; coordinate with 3PLs and customer carriers for appointments.
  • Maintain a live shipping schedule that supports an efficient dock and warehouse work plan.
  • Document detention and keep detailed, timely logs of carrier arrivals and departures.
  • Dispatch and support drivers throughout the day; coordinate closely with onsite security.
  • Weigh trucks in and out as directed; verify shipment documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Schedule inbound delivery appointments and manage both inbound and outbound load schedules.
  • Prepare required reports for traffic, shipping, and customers.
  • Build familiarity with air freight, international moves, and hazardous shipments.
  • Cross-train across business units; uphold housekeeping, 6S, quality, safety, and productivity standards.
  • Perform related responsibilities as needed to support a team-oriented manufacturing environment.

What you'll bring

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • 1–3 years of clerical/administrative experience (required).
  • 1–3 years in transportation/shipping (preferred; prior experience helpful but not required).
  • Strong multitasking, time management, and decision-making in a fast-paced setting.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • General office proficiency and strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).

Work environment

  • Training and growth opportunities; cross-training encouraged.
  • Rewards program and monthly bonus program.
  • Paid breaks; company-provided uniforms with cleaning service.
