Product Development Engineering Co-Op
Vicarious Surgical is seeking a Product Development Engineering Co-Op to join our team in Waltham, MA. This role will contribute to key product development tasks including mechanical design, test fixture development, testing, manufacturing process development / refinement. Working in a collaborative environment, you will interact with R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality teams. To be considered, you must be available for 6 months and be local to Waltham, MA.
Vicarious Surgical is a next generation robotics company developing a disruptive technology with the goal of increasing the efficiency of surgical procedure, improving patient outcomes, and reducing healthcare costs.

Responsibilities
- Iterate quickly on Concepts, Prototypes, and Tests
- Taking Ownership of tasks and being open to learning
- Develop, in collaboration with stakeholders, test fixtures, test methods, and document results
- Provide design recommendations and feedback to the team during Design Reviews and other development activities
- Comfortable with mechanical assembly mostly outside, but sometimes in a Clean Room environment
- Participate and be comfortable with Clinical Lab Activities and Procedure Development
- Develop, iterate and optimize manufacturing work instructions and standard operating procedures for Vicarious Surgical's electromechanical capital and single use products
- Assist in the design, construction and validation of manufacturing assembly and test equipment
- Contribute on product teams supporting Design for Manufacturing (DFM) elements and ensuring process capabilities meet targets for all design specifications
- Assemble electro-mechanical components. Conduct basic product testing and document results in technical reports.

About You
- Currently enrolled in an Undergraduate program in Engineering
- Fundamental Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Principles (e.g. motors, mechanisms, material selection)
- Exposure to Solidworks (or equivalent 3D CAD software) to create models, assemblies, and detailed drawings following common design practices and ASME standards
- Familiarity with data collection, test execution, and result submission
- Familiarity with 3D Printing and other Rapid Prototyping methods
- Competent with use of Google workspace and Microsoft Office Suite
- Well-organized with a right first-time approach
- Curiosity, Strong Communication, and a Willingness to ask questions
- Taking Ownership of tasks and being open to learning
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to write simple reports and business correspondence
