Mass Tank is seeking a detail-oriented Purchasing & Production Support Coordinator to support our steel tank fabrication operations. This role plays a critical part in keeping our shop running efficiently by owning purchasing activities, coordinating materials, and supporting production and documentation workflows.
You will work closely with our Engineer and Production Manager to ensure materials, parts, and services are ordered correctly, delivered on time, and properly documented — allowing our engineering and production teams to stay focused on building high-quality ASME-compliant tanks.
This is a hands-on, shop-facing role ideal for someone who enjoys working across departments and taking ownership of day-to-day execution.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Vendor Coordination
- Issue purchase orders for raw materials, fittings, flanges, nozzles, coatings, and subcontracted services
- Request and evaluate vendor quotes as needed
- Track lead times and confirm delivery dates to support production schedules
- Communicate with vendors to resolve shortages, delays, or discrepancies
Production & Material Support
- Review engineering drawings and bills of material to confirm purchasing requirements
- Track material status by job (ordered, received, staged)
- Coordinate material staging and job kitting with the shop floor
- Proactively flag material risks or delays to Engineering and Production
Receiving & Documentation
- Match packing slips and invoices to purchase orders
- Verify quantities and basic conformance upon receipt
- Collect and organize material certifications (MTRs, certs) for ASME jobs
- Assist with job folders, turnover packages, and production documentation
Inventory & Cost Control
- Help maintain inventory of common materials and shop consumables
- Support cost tracking and purchasing reports
- Assist in vendor standardization and cost-saving initiatives
General Support
- Provide administrative and operational support to Engineering and Production
- Help document purchasing and material control processes
- Take on additional responsibilities as the role grows
Qualifications
- Experience in purchasing, fabrication, manufacturing, or construction support preferred
- Comfortable working in a shop and industrial environment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to read basic drawings or bills of material (or willingness to learn)
- Proficient with email, spreadsheets, and basic ERP or purchasing systems
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and proactive
