Overview
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Finance/Accounting Manager to oversee the daily operations of our accounting function. This role is ideal for someone with a public accounting background, and ideally experience in the legal industry or a professional services firm. While a CPA designation is strongly preferred, we will consider candidates without it if they bring strong legal industry experience and meet all other key requirements.
This role is responsible for managing a team, ensuring excellence across full-cycle accounting, payroll, internal controls, and tax compliance. This is a leadership position that requires strong technical acumen, proven people management skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the accounting department, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end close
- Supervise and mentor a team of 6 accounting professionals, fostering growth, accountability, and collaboration
- Oversee full-cycle accounting, ensuring timely and accurate reporting in compliance with GAAP
- Manage and coordinate bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll; ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
- Maintain and enhance internal control processes, financial policies, and best practices
- Lead tax preparation and compliance in coordination with external tax advisors
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting packages for senior leadership
- Drive process improvement initiatives, including evaluating and enhancing systems and workflows
- Act as a financial partner to department leaders, providing insight and support for budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Support external audits and liaise with auditors and tax consultants as needed
Qualifications
- CPA designation strongly preferred (or eligible/in progress); may be flexible for candidates from legal or professional services industries with highly relevant experience
- 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally with a mix of public accounting and in-house work
- Legal industry experience is strongly preferred; open to candidates from private industry with strong alignment on key responsibilities
- Proven experience managing and developing teams; must have direct people management experience
- Demonstrated expertise in full-cycle accounting, payroll processing, internal controls, and tax compliance
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and comfort with financial systems and Excel
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills in a deadline-driven environment
