Position Grade/Level: Union position/Grade 5
FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-Time (35 hours/week)
Salary Range: $64,000-89,600 (starting $64,000-70,400)
Work Model: Hybrid

We focus our work in three intersectional areas of justice: Migrant Justice, Climate and Disaster Justice, and International Justice and Accountability. We center the voices and experiences of those most affected and strengthen those grassroots groups and movements who are organizing themselves to advance these goals. Position Overview
The Associate for Advocacy will be primarily responsible for supporting the Advocacy team to implement its Advocacy goals and organizing the team’s coordination and collaboration with staff across the institution. The Associate will maintain relevant databases, support constituency engagement, desktop research, partner engagement, and team coordination. Travel for the position could be up to 30% of the time.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Constituent Mobilization and Outreach
    • Work in close collaboration with the team to support our rapid response mobilization platform and long-term organizing work
  • Provide Desktop Research Support
    • Provide desktop research support to the Advocacy team, including pulling together summaries and briefs from existing information.
  • Support Partner Engagement
    • Draft partner recommendations in FLUXX
    • Schedule partner meetings
    • Track partner requests and flag for Advocacy Team
  • Team Coordination
    • Schedule team and working group coordination meetings, take notes and send follow up action items
    • Organize and coordinate team meetings
    • Join Advocacy coalitions/movement meetings on behalf of Advocacy team and debrief staff on key outcomes and next steps
  • Maintain Advocacy Databases
    • Collect and provide data from the advocacy team for the Impact & Accountability Framework process in liaison with the data collection team
    • Maintain a list of all endorsements, Including sign-on’s, statements, letters, etc.,
    • Maintain a list of coalition/movements, partnerships, contacts and memberships
    • Maintain a record of all subscriptions and memberships; complete annual membership renewals requirements and ensure that our memberships are current
    • Maintain a list of venues, hotels and catering in Washington D.C. and New York and coordinate logistics for Advocacy events
    • Review, create and manage a filing system for all advocacy documents and other outputs, including dedicated files for all financial transactions, budget tracking, deliverables and meetings
  • Administration Support
    • Under the guidance of the Advocacy team members, organize Advocacy events, such as UN side events, partner briefings, hill meetings and webinars.
    • Provide additional support to the team and Director as needed

Required and Desired Qualifications

  • 2-5 years of experience in a similar role required
  • Relevant experience withg a digital mobilization platform desired
  • Experience conducting desktop research
  • Experience in providing coordination support for different teams and different streams of work
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to organize meetings and events
  • Ability to use Microsoft Applications and is tech-savvy
  • Team-player and collaborative
  • A strong racial and social justice lens
  • Good communication skills (good listener, is able to communicate clearly to other staff)
  • Relevant experience in organizing constituents and special groups is desired
  • Familiarity with Unitarian Universalism useful, but not required

Physical Requirements
Physical requirements include the ability to operate a laptop and cellular phone, and other tools as related to the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Remote employees can be based in any state where UUSC is registered as a business, including MA, ME, CT, NY, MD, Washington D.C., VA, NC, FL, GA, MN, WA. Hybrid employees must live within commuting distance to the Cambridge, MA office and be available for weekly commuting to work in Cambridge.
