Thomas Buckborough & Associates is seeking a Lead Designer & Estimator to play a pivotal role in our design-build process.
This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned professional (10+ years) who can wear multiple hats. If you are proficient in Chief Architect, understand wood-frame construction, and can bridge the gap between creative design and accurate estimating, we want to hear from you. We offer a salary range up to $130k+, a boutique team environment, and the chance to lead high-end residential projects.

Founded in 1988, Thomas Buckborough & Associates (TB&A) is a premier integrated design-build firm in Boston's MetroWest. We deliver a superior home remodeling experience by handling sophisticated design, craftsmanship, and project management all under one roof. We are a small, boutique firm where everyone wears multiple hats, so flexibility and a team-player mentality are essential.
Key Responsibilities
You will lead homeowners through the entire pre-construction phase, from the first sketch to the final budget.
Design Development: Create innovative, functional designs tailored to homeowners' needs using Chief Architect.
Visualization: Prepare presentation drawings, 3D models, and construction plans .
Estimating: Perform accurate material take-offs, secure quotes from vendors, and develop detailed estimating systems.
Feasibility: Conduct site inspections to measure existing conditions and assess project feasibility.
Construction Handoff: Transition projects from design to construction, ensuring the production team understands all plans and specs.
Client Leadership: Lead homeowners through the design-build process, managing expectations and budgets.
Qualifications
Experience: 10+ years of experience in residential remodeling, architecture, or project design/estimating.
Software: Proficiency in Chief Architect is strongly preferred. Experience with estimating tools and CRM programs is required.
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of wood-frame construction methods and residential remodeling best practices.
Skills: Ability to produce construction plans and detailed specifications.
Requirements: Valid driver's license for site visits. Highly organized and able to multitask.
