Director of Grant Development
Position Summary
Lead and manage all aspects of the organization’s development and fundraising efforts, including grants, donor relations, events, compliance, and departmental leadership. This role works cross-functionally to secure and steward funding that supports the organization’s mission.
- Pay range: $31–$48/hour
- Hybrid flexibility: potential for 1–2 remote days per week once established
- Department currently being rebuilt; opportunity to help shape team structure
- Interview process: one Zoom interview and one in-person interview
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership
- Direct and oversee all development activities, strategy, and goal setting
- Supervise development staff and manage department workflows
- Evaluate priorities, manage risk, and make timely, informed decisions
- Build and maintain systems, processes, and performance tracking
Internal Collaboration
- Partner with program, clinical, finance, data, executive, and administrative teams
- Work with Communications/Marketing on digital fundraising strategy
- Coordinate with internal project champions to meet funder requirements
Finance & Grants Management
- Support budget development with finance staff
- Ensure grant funds are spent in compliance with funder requirements
- Oversee financial reporting, invoices, amendments, and submissions to funders
Project Coordination & Systems
- Lead internal grant planning and reporting processes
- Manage development and grants management software
- Maintain complete and accurate records of all development activities
- Prepare regular progress reports for leadership and the Board
Prospecting & Relationship Building
- Research and identify foundation, corporate, government, and individual funding opportunities
- Build and manage relationships with donors, funders, and partners
- Monitor funding trends, legislation, and public grant opportunities
Proposal Development & Writing
- Oversee and contribute to grant proposals, reports, and fundraising materials
- Provide writing and editing support across departments
- Ensure timely submission of proposals and required documentation
Grants Compliance
- Manage regulatory submissions (e.g., UDS, FTCA, SAM)
- Support audits, site visits, and funder reviews
- Stay current on grant regulations and compliance requirements
- Maintain communication with government and funder contacts
Events & Campaigns
- Support planning and promotion of fundraising events and campaigns
- Help recruit sponsors and maintain donor relationships
- Participate in evaluation and improvement of fundraising efforts
Donor & Grant Stewardship
- Oversee donor acknowledgement, tracking, and stewardship processes
- Maintain accurate gift and grant records
- Represent the organization at events, meetings, and site visits
Qualifications
- Strong grant writing and written communication skills required
- Strong Excel skills required
- Healthcare and/or nonprofit experience highly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree highly preferred
