Job Description
This is a 40 hour/week exempt position with daytime hours.
The MSPCA-Angell at Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem is offering a unique opportunity for an experienced veterinarian to lead our progressive team serving both community animals in need and shelter pets. If you are interested in joining our team in a primarily clinical sense, rather than assuming leadership components, you are still encouraged to apply. Please indicate your intention in a Cover Letter.
THE POSITION:
Our clinic provides medical care to the dogs and cats at MSPCA-Angell at Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem. The majority of our shelter pets arrive to us via our animal relocation program, where we have strong partnerships with individual shelters across the country as well as with larger, transport-focused organizations such as the ASPCA and Bissell Pet Foundation. We also maintain capacity to help in our local community, by offering pet retention resources through our community outreach program, such as low cost spay/neuter and acute outpatient veterinary care for animals of low-income pet owners. The position reports to the Director of Operations and offers exposure to a diversity of surgical and medical cases rarely seen in private practice, with an emphasis on high volume spay/neuter and infectious disease control. On average, we see 100 community pets a month and 350 relocated pets, with a goal of increasing capacity, both through adjustments to our physical space, and through technician and veterinarian training. As the Lead Shelter Veterinarian, in addition to providing hands-on care to shelter and community pets, you’ll be supporting new and experienced veterinarians, fostering a positive culture, overseeing administrative functions, and playing a larger role in collaborating with Lead Veterinarians at our three other adoption centers.
The salary range for the lead position is generally $150,000 - $165,000 and can vary based on skill level and experience.
Joining MSPCA-Angell at Northeast Animal Shelter means being part of a dynamic, passionate team from various specialties – including veterinarians, techs, animal behavior, adoptions, foster, and operations. You will have the opportunity to impact thousands of people and pets each year, while having fewer client-focused interactions than in private practice. The role also presents an opportunity to oversee whole population health in a shelter setting.
Enjoy a consistent schedule that allows for a work-life balance, and make a real difference in the lives of people and pets by providing care to homeless animals in need and providing accessible and affordable veterinary care to underserved communities.
APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:
Our ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience as a veterinarian in shelter medicine/whole population health management, infectious disease control, high volume, high quality spay/neuter techniques (humane alliance model), and experience in dental surgery. We are also looking for diverse surgery and medical evaluation skills for urgent care cases, such as pyometras, leg amputations, foreign body surgeries, etc.
OUR BENEFITS:
- Relocation allowance
- Paid professional memberships, licensure, PLIT, VIN and DEA license
- Annual CE allowance
- Generous Paid Time Off
- Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance
- Dental, life and disability insurance
- 403b with employer match
- Flexible Spending Account
- As part of the renowned MSPCA, our shelter is a not-for profit (reduction in your student loans is a possibility) animal hospital.
- Employee discounts for pet health care and pet food!
