POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Think Tank is a woman-owned small business with more than 27 years of proven success delivering exceptional IT and marine fisheries services to the federal government. We are currently seeking an ideal candidate for the position of Seal/Turtle Biologist to support an upcoming proposal with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Résumé of successful candidate(s) will be included with our proposal.
The Seal/Turtle Biologist supports field and laboratory studies focused on pinnipeds and sea turtles, including health assessments, tagging, behavioral monitoring, and necropsy support. The position requires field experience and specialized knowledge of protected species.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Capture, handle, and sample various pinniped species of different age classes under guidelines specified in scientific research permit.
- Sedate and monitor animals as necessary during sampling activities.
- Conduct surveys, behavioral observations, and tagging of seals and sea turtles.
- Support biological sampling and health assessments during field or stranding response activities.
- Perform data analysis and contribute to technical documentation and reports.
- Assist with equipment preparation, maintenance, and field logistics.
- Comply with permit and ethical handling requirements for protected species.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in marine biology, zoology, or related field.
- Experience working with marine mammals or sea turtles in research or rehabilitation settings.
- Strong knowledge of species-specific behavior, anatomy, and identification.
- Ability to work in field conditions, including handling animals and using tagging equipment.
- Familiarity with data recording, biological sample processing, and NOAA permit procedures.
