Band IX Lead Process Technician - Injection Molding
Plastics Division, 1st Shift
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Process Technician for Injection Molding is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the injection molding process to ensure high-quality production, operational efficiency, and adherence to safety standards. This role involves troubleshooting process issues, setting up and maintaining molding equipment, and collaborating with engineering and production teams to meet production goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Optimization: Develop, monitor, and adjust injection molding processes to maximize efficiency, reduce cycle times, and maintain product quality.
- Equipment Setup & Maintenance: Set up, calibrate, and maintain injection molding machines, molds, and auxiliary equipment to ensure consistent performance.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve process and equipment issues, including defects, machine malfunctions, and material inconsistencies.
- Team Leadership: Train and mentor process technicians, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
- Quality Control: Collaborate with production teams to ensure molded parts meet specifications, conducting inspections and implementing corrective actions as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of process parameters, production data, and maintenance activities. Update SOPs and process documentation as required.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and waste minimization through lean manufacturing principles or other methodologies.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce workplace safety standards, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to support new product introductions, mold trials, and equipment upgrades.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, plastics engineering, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in injection molding, with at least 2 years in a lead or technician role.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in injection molding machine operation, mold setup, and process parameter optimization. Knowledge of materials (e.g., thermoplastics, resins) and troubleshooting techniques.
- Leadership Skills: Strong ability to lead, train, and motivate a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications: RJG Master Molder, Lean Six Sigma, or similar certifications are a plus.
- Other: Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001), basic computer skills (e.g., ERP systems, MS Office), and ability to read technical drawings.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, and chemicals.
Work Environment:
- Full-time position in a manufacturing facility, with potential for shift work, including nights or weekends, depending on production needs.
