Position Summary
The Quality Engineer Team Lead will play a pivotal role in ensuring product quality, compliance, and continuous improvement across Innofibers manufacturing operations. This position combines technical quality engineering responsibilities with leadership of a small team of Quality Control Inspectors. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, adaptable thinker who embraces challenges and seeks opportunities to improve process performance, product quality, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of QC Inspectors to build a reliable, skilled quality workforce.
- Lead daily quality activities, including shift coverage, inspector coaching, and performance metrics.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and Kaizen across teams.
Quality Management & Compliance
- Support compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality management systems and other regulatory requirements.
- Lead internal audits, corrective/preventive actions (CAPA), and supplier quality assurance.
- Monitor quality trends, using data to drive corrective actions and process improvements.
Product & Process Quality Control
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Operations to identify, investigate, and resolve product or process non-conformances.
- Support routine inspection, testing, and documentation activities to ensure adherence to specifications throughout the product lifecycle.
- Assist with first article inspections, process validations, and product release activities.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead and participate in Kaizen events, root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, Fishbone), and Lean projects.
- Identify process waste and quality bottlenecks, proposing creative solutions that reduce defects and improve throughput.
- Implement quality tools (SPC, FMEA) to monitor and improve product and process performance.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Operations, and Customer Service teams to ensure quality expectations are met and sustained.
- Interface with customers and regulatory auditors as needed to support quality system audits and product questions.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, Quality, or related technical field (preferred).
- 2+ years of quality engineering experience in medical device or regulated manufacturing (fiber optic or precision assembly experience a plus).
- At least 1years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
- Strong working knowledge of quality systems (ISO 13485 & ISO 9001) and FDA regulations.
- Experience with Lean, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficient in common quality tools and software (e.g., Minitab, SPC, CAPA management).
- Understanding of GD&T, inspection techniques, and measuring equipment.
