A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST (OT)

As an OT, you will evaluate, plan, and administer medically prescribed or educationally relevant occupational therapy treatment to clients in their homes or students in their respective educational environment. In addition, this position is responsible for clinical supervision of students, certified occupational therapy assistants and rehabilitation aides. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs a comprehensive (OASIS and OT) assessments of assigned patients including, but not limited to psychosocial, educational, safety and risk factor parameters, as evidenced by clinical documentation.
  • Develops a plan of care to promote optimal functional independence and safety as documented by clinical record
  • Actively monitors and amends patient visit schedule to maximize productivity and patient need. Takes action to account for new patients and changes in existing patient schedule, including but not limited to, calling patient to reschedule visits, reshuffling patient load to meet new demands, communicating recommended changes to supervisor, etc.
  • Plans for and provides skilled occupational therapy treatment including, but not limited to, therapeutic techniques, patient/care giver education, etc. assessing the patient's status and progress on each visit and ensuring quality of care as documented in the clinical record.
  • Coordinates patient care with other clinical team members, including but not limited to, physicians, nurses, care givers, other rehab services and students, ensuring optimal patient care and communication as noted in the clinical record.
  • Accurately and completely performs functions as related to school-based services, including, but not limited to, evaluations, documentation, development of Individual Educational Plan IEP's, participation in meetings, and provision of direct and consultative services. Fills out and completes insurance paperwork in a timely manner and in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Works collaboratively with QI staff to maximize accuracy of clinical notes and OASIS documents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy required, Master's preferred
  • Current Vermont State OT license required
  • Two years of clinical Occupational Therapy experience preferred
  • Ability to successfully pass pre-employment driver record, criminal, adult and child abuse background check/review required. Valid driver's license and insured vehicle required.
