Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A licensed Special Education Teacher position is available to provide instructional leadership and support within a middle school LINKS program serving students with significant support needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This full-time, contract role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student growth by implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and collaborating closely with paraprofessionals and 1:1 support staff in a small classroom setting.

Location: Amherst, MA (Middle School)

Position Duration: Current School Year, Contract (ASAP to End of School Year with possible extension)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the teacher of record for a LINKS classroom of 6 students, delivering specialized instruction tailored to individual needs
  • Implement and monitor IEPs to ensure compliance and student progress
  • Collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals and 1:1 aides to create a supportive learning environment
  • Provide direct support to students, including toileting assistance and sensory needs management
  • Address and manage self-injurious behaviors (SIB) with appropriate interventions and strategies
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communication with school staff and families

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid Massachusetts Special Education teaching license
  • Experience working with students diagnosed with ASD and managing sensory processing challenges
  • Comfortable providing personal care support such as toileting assistance
  • Knowledge of strategies to support students exhibiting self-injurious behaviors
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to coordinate support with paraprofessionals and aides
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality are essential
  • Ability to pass required background checks and drug screening
