Self Help Inc. is currently looking for an enthusiastic, experienced Bus Monitor to join our team.

We provide a range of services for families and households across Southeastern Massachusetts.
Job Summary
The Bus Monitor is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of pre-school age children during bus transportation. This role involves supervising children, assisting them with boarding and exiting the bus, maintaining order, and providing support to the Bus Driver. The Bus Monitor plays a crucial part in creating a safe and positive environment for children during their commute.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe and orderly environment while on the bus
- Assist preschool children with securing and releasing safety harnesses while boarding and exiting the bus.
- Escorting children to and from classrooms upon arrival and departure
- Enforce school bus rules and regulations
- Report any significant incidents to the bus driver and/or Transportation Specialist
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, school staff, and the Bus Driver
- Relay messages between parents and school staff as needed
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times
Other Requirements
- Must pass a criminal background check and other required clearances
- Must have or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
- Must meet the physical requirements of the position, including the ability to lift and carry young children, bend, stoop, and actively engage with children
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required
Schedule
- Monday-Friday
- 35 hours per week
- Summers off
Knowledge, Skills and abilities
- Ability to manage children’s behavior effectively and calmly
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures
- Physical ability to assist students with boarding and exiting
- Must be able to lift 50lbs.
- Must hold a driver’s license and a car
Education & Experience
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children is preferred
