2026 Legal Advocacy Internship
Community Bridges is a 501(c)(3) non-profit serving individuals with developmental disabilities in Concord, NH and the Lakes Region. Community Bridges offers internships to students, graduate students, and recent graduates with demonstrated interest or experience in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Each internship includes an educational component, through which interns contextualize their experience and reflect on their service.
All internships are unpaid and correspond roughly with the US semester system.
- Summer Internship: June 2026 – August 2026
- Fall Internship: September 2026 – December 2026
First consideration is given to applicants that can commit at least 16 hours per week over the course of the semester outlined above. Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of whether their schedule fits the semester system; Community Bridges makes exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Slots fill quickly and candidates are encouraged to apply earlier than the requested date above.
Please note that this internship will be a hybrid format, meaning that some in-person hours at our Concord, NH office are required.
This internship will require a brief writing sample (to not exceed 10 pages) to be submitted along with the application.
Legal Advocacy Internship Overview
The Legal Advocacy intern will work closely with Community Bridges Director of Strategic Initiatives & Legal Counsel to learn more about and gain hands-on experience within New Hampshire's developmental services and legal impacts. This is an excellent opportunity for practical experience in various field of law, including: administrative, health, employment, contract, and non-profit governance.
This internship is only open to 1L and 2L law students at this time
Responsibilities
- Support advocacy-based projects with the External Relations and Legal teams
- Conduct research on state and federal regulations regarding developmental services, Medicaid compliance, employment law, and non-profit governance; summarize findings and present clear memos
- Draft legal memoranda, policy memoranda, and correspondence
- Support compliance and policy initiatives, including research on regulatory requirements and drafting internal policy recommendations or changes
- Observe and assist with the preparation of administrative appeals at the New Hampshire Administrative Appeals Unit related to eligibility or service denials
- Assist with administrative duties including file organization, meeting prep, and confidential information as needed
- Other projects and duties as assigned and dependent upon intern's educational goals
Required Skills/Abilities
- Current law student – 1L or 2L
- Interest in advocacy and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities
- Ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Highly organized with great attention to detail
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and to switch gears quickly
- Professional, discretion, and maturity in dealing with confidential information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Knowledge of non-profit operations a plus
