Position SummaryYou will operate heavy equipment, such as trenchers, backhoes, excavators, dozers, skid steers, and fork trucks, to install and maintain underground utilities. Your work will directly contribute to efficient operations and our mission of building reliable infrastructure for a sustainable future.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate various equipment, including:
- Trenchers, backhoes, and excavators for the installation or maintenance of underground utilities.
- Dozers or motor graders to grade and backfill trenches on uneven terrain, following reference stakes for precision.
- Skid steers with compaction wheels to compact backfill and perform other tasks
- Fork trucks to load/unload cable reels, set up equipment, and operate in close quarters with other equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including greasing, oiling, and diagnosing defects to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with foremen, subcontractors, and teams to meet project timelines, providing feedback for improvements.
- Follow all safety protocols, which include safe equipment operation, wearing required PPE, and participating in daily and weekly safety meetings.
- Participate in sustainable practices, such as minimizing environmental impact during excavations.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience with construction, excavation, and related heavy equipment operation.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Proficiency in operating equipment like Vermeer trenchers or Caterpillar excavators.
- Willingness to travel 100% and relocate to job sites nationwide (projects average 6-12 months).
- Strong communication skills for team collaboration and safety protocols.
- Capability to lift 50+ pounds, perform manual labor, handle frequent bending and lifting, and work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screenings and background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance, including electrical and mechanical, and diesel/gasoline engines.
- Hands-on experience in construction or underground utility projects.
- Experience with construction hand tools and power equipment.
