A nursing opportunity awaits in Burlington, VT, offering a contract position focused on specialized hospice care. This role demands compassionate and experienced nurses dedicated to providing end-of-life care both in inpatient and home settings. The position involves caring for terminally ill adult patients, with occasional pediatric cases in home hospice. Nurses will rotate between an inpatient respite house and home hospice environments, managing complex symptoms with a high degree of clinical skill.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive hospice nursing care for a census of approximately 100 patients across inpatient and home settings.
  • Manage pain and symptom control using advanced clinical interventions, including IV and subcutaneous medication administration.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and participate in goals-of-care discussions with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Utilize medical equipment such as CADD pumps, feeding pumps, BiPAP/CPAP devices, and infusion pumps.
  • Document care using specialized software and adhere to strict clinical protocols.
  • Rotate smoothly between inpatient and home hospice assignments, covering scheduled shifts including weekends.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) with 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, including hospice or palliative care specialty.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Comfort with complex symptom management, critical thinking, and family education at end-of-life.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience with advanced nursing procedures such as central line care, wound management, and palliative sedation preferred.

This contract role offers an engaging environment with a dedicated nurse practitioner on-site and support from a skilled clinical team. Orientation lasts 2-3 days, and scheduling follows a structured rotation with clearly communicated expectations.
