Summary

Starksboro Cooperative Preschool is seeking an outgoing, caring, patient, and reliable individual to serve as aone-on-one assistant for a 5-year-old child with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnosis. This role is central to supporting the child’s participation, learning, and social engagement within our inclusive preschool environment.

This is a35-hour/weekposition (late August through early June) and is aone-year, grant funded positionfor the 2025–2026 school year.

Duties

About the Role:

• Work closely with the classroom teachers to provide individualized support
• Help implement strategies outlined in the child’s educational and behavioral plans
• Encourage peer interactions and support the child in daily routines
• Assist in creating a safe, responsive, and nurturing classroom environment
• Maintain respectful and confidential communication with staff and family

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Experience working with young children, especially those with ASD or other developmental differences
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Additional training or life experience relevant to child development is highly valued
• Acalm, flexible, and compassionateapproach to supporting young learners
• Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education
Experience using Teaching Strategies GOLD and Vermont's Early Learning Standards (VELS)
