Position Summary: The Day Hab Direct Support Professional supports individuals intellectual and developmental disabilities in a variety of settings to achieve the goals identified in the individual’s service plan while exemplifying service standards of excellence in all direct care and operational duties.

What is Day Habilitation?
The Day Habilitation program at The Arc of Opportunity is a therapy-based program that strives to foster independence and assist individuals to achieve their goals. We utilize recommendations from Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Behavior Specialists to develop individualized Day Hab Service Plans for every program participant. Day Hab Service Plans target measurable objectives that support participants to grow. Day Habilitation also offers daily group activities to support skill building such as baking, arts and crafts, music therapy, expressive art therapy, and community outings.
What does a Direct Support Professional (DSP) do?
As a Direct Support Professional, you will have the rewarding responsibility of directly supporting individuals to achieve their goals. Your key duties will include:
· Assisting individuals with skill building and supporting their independence as they work to meet their objectives.
· Running engaging and meaningful group activities that align with the interests of program participants.
· Collaborating with team members to ensure each participant’s Day Hab Service Plan is implemented effectively.
· Advocating for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities.

Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED is required.
· Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, email communication, internet, and documentation entry.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
· Compassion, resourcefulness, and a strong desire to learn and grow.
· Ability to be on your feet much of the day, as physical demands include frequent standing, pushing, pulling, walking, stooping, lifting and twisting.
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
· Ability to perform physical restraint, if necessary.
· Ability to perform safe lifts and transfers of individuals who use wheelchairs, as well as transfer, change, shower and assist with toileting and all personal care needs of the individuals supported.
· Functional and situational reasoning to follow policy, complete administrative tasks, problem solve, exercise sound judgment, prioritize multiple tasks, and crisis manage.
· Cross functional communication skills, written and oral, which convey clear and concise information in a professional and respectful manner.
· Attend mandatory trainings and meetings as assigned and required.
· Maintains all required certifications.
· Conduct oneself professionally, maintaining respect, following regulations and agency policies, and adhering to confidentiality requirements in all assigned duties
· Acceptable background check results including CORI, SORI, OIG, and fingerprinting
