Position Overview

The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and enhancing production processes for in-house manufacturing lines. This position focuses on improving assembly processes through the use of fixtures, tooling, and continuous process improvements. A key part of the job involves ensuring quality standards are met, providing data for capacity planning, and collaborating on design for manufacturability (DFM) for new products. Additionally, this role supports cost reduction efforts and manages supplier quality for outsourced components, utilizing best practices such as LEAN, Kaizen, and Six Sigma to optimize production

Key Responsibilities

  • Designs, implements, and maintains in-house manufacturing lines, including line design/layout, work instructions, fixturing and process validation
  • Creates the processes, monitoring, and controls to ensure quality goals are met and maintained for the product lines
  • Leads the effort to identify opportunities to improve the assembly process through the use of fixtures and tooling
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information to support capacity planning, production schedules, and estimating future requirements
  • Participates and offers Design for Manufacturing (DFM) recommendations on design reviews for new and existing products
  • Proven experience with FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) methodologies to identify and mitigate potential risks in design and manufacturing processes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conducting RCA (Root Cause Analysis) to resolve complex manufacturing issues and drive continuous improvement.
  • Support Design for Assembly (DFA) and DFM manufacturing engineering activities for new products, and provides expertise in process control for low volume, high mix assemblies
  • Performs times studies and analyses on existing manufacturing processes to improve process reliability, problem solving, or improving product quality and/or cost
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and leads initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality
  • Drives cost reduction exercises through recommended design changes and assembly improvements
  • Manages outsourced sub-assemblies and resolves supplier quality issues directly

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, or similar engineering
  • 8+ years of manufacturing engineering experience
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks to create 3D models and drawings to support manufacturing assembly models, fixture design and development, and sustaining engineering activities
  • Ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve issues as they arise with minimal supervision
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience with complex electromechanical systems, including the ability to use knowledge of mechanical and electrical assembly tools and techniques
  • Strong performance history of managing an existing assembly line, resolving issues as well as continuous improvements
  • Proven track record of developing and executing well-defined processes and identifying opportunities for in-process testing
  • Capable of thriving in a cross-disciplinary and collaborative environment, with the ability to work with team members of all experience levels
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with production best practices such as LEAN, Kaizen, 5S, and Six Sigma
  • Established record of excelling within a fast-paced working environment with demonstrated ability to adapt as programs evolve preferred
  • Capital equipment experience preferred
  • Experience working in a LEAN/DFT production environment preferred
  • Experience with Supplier Quality Management preferred

Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.

Standard office environment. Significant computer work should be expected.
