We pride ourselves on our proactive approach, technical expertise, and dedication to fostering strong client relationships. Join our supportive team and play a key role in designing, maintaining, and supporting reliable network infrastructures for our clients.
Position Overview
As a Mid-Tier Network Specialist at Back Bay Networks, you will be a key contributor to our service delivery team, responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving client network environments. You will serve as a primary escalation point for network-related issues and play an active role in implementing, troubleshooting, and optimizing wired and wireless networks across multiple client environments.
This role requires strong networking fundamentals, hands-on troubleshooting experience, and the ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both internal teams and end users. Work will be performed both remotely and on-site.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level support for client network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and ISP connectivity.
- Independently troubleshoot and resolve network-related issues such as connectivity problems, latency, packet loss, DNS/DHCP failures, VPN access issues, and firewall rule conflicts.
- Configure, maintain, and support firewall platforms (e.g., site-to-site VPNs, client VPNs, NAT, port forwarding, and security policies).
- Perform on-site diagnostics, network installations, upgrades, and remediation when remote resolution is not feasible.
- Support and maintain LAN, WAN, and WLAN environments, including VLANs, subnetting, routing, and QoS where applicable.
- Maintain a deep, up-to-date understanding of Back Bay Networks networking standards, tools, and supported platforms.
- Accurately document all work performed, troubleshooting steps, diagrams, and resolutions in the ticketing system and network documentation repositories.
- Collaborate with systems and service desk teams to resolve cross-functional issues involving servers, endpoints, and cloud services.
- Proactively identify recurring network issues, design improvements, and capacity concerns, and communicate recommendations to internal leadership.
- Assist with technical aspects of pre-sales activities, including network assessments, solution design, and implementation planning.
- Support Microsoft 365 and Windows Server environments for networking services such as DNS, DHCP, authentication, and secure access.
- Maintain organized digital and physical documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and client records, in accordance with company policies.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 35 years of hands-on networking or infrastructure experience, preferably supporting multiple client environments.
- Strong understanding of core networking concepts, including TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies.
- Experience in configuring and troubleshooting firewalls, managed switches, and wireless networking equipment.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network performance and connectivity issues in a timely manner.
- Familiarity with Windows Server environments (20122022) and Active Directory as they relate to network services.
- Experience working with backup systems, ISP circuits, and network failover strategies.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and time-management skills in a fast-paced MSP environment.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Must reside within a 1-hour driving radius of our Dover, NH office to support on-site client needs.
Preferred Skills and Experience (Not Required)
- Networking certifications (CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, Fortinet NSE, Ubiquiti, or equivalent).
- Security certifications (CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CySA+).
- Experience with MSP tools, including RMM and PSA platforms.
- Hands-on experience with wireless site surveys and network documentation tools.
- Cloud networking experience (Azure or AWS).
- ITSM certifications (ITIL Foundation or higher).
- Prior experience working for a Managed Services Provider (MSP).
