CNC Lathe/Mill Operator -- First Piece & Inspection Focus

We’re seeking a CNC professional who can run turning, milling, and mill-turn work centers, keep quality front-and-center, and help us ship flawless parts. If you have a knack for prints, GD&T, and in-process inspection—and you’re open to growing into a lead role—read on.
Core impact
- Produce parts to customer specifications using CNC lathes, mills, and mill-turn equipment.
- Program or modify CNC programs as needed; verify outcomes after changes.
- Perform first piece and in-process inspections per print callouts.
- Deburr to requirements and maintain part identification and lot segregation.
- Detect, segregate, and report nonconforming product and FOD; control nonconforming material per procedure.
- Document results accurately on job travelers and associated quality records.
- Notify leads/management of damaged or nonconforming parts immediately.
- Assist with packaging and shipping to meet delivery commitments.
- Comply with AS9100D and all customer-specific requirements; report safety concerns.
Lead option
Opportunity to oversee a turning or milling area: scheduling, troubleshooting, programming updates, and coordinating first-piece inspections in collaboration with the other area lead.
Competencies
- Print reading; basic-to-strong GD&T proficiency.
- Multitasking across machines and inspection while parts are running.
- Manual dexterity, endurance for standing, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Clean, organized work habits and a proven safety focus.
- Proficient with measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, gage blocks).
- Team-oriented mindset within an AS9100 environment.
Required knowledge & skills
- Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Experience with Brown & Sharpe Micro-Val CMM and/or CMM Manager software is a plus.
- Strong communication and math skills.
- Familiarity with AS9100 shop practices.
Training & education
- High school diploma or GED.
- AS9100 awareness; familiarity with Jet Machined Products inspection forms and recordkeeping preferred.
Reporting
Reports to the Turning/Milling Lead. If hired as Lead, reports to the General Manager.
Physical demands & environment
- Lift and move machined parts; stand for long periods.
- Clean, relatively quiet facility; hearing protection required in designated areas.
- Eye protection required for specific operations.
Hours
Occasional overtime based on workload.
