Our school is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who will also serve as a Teaching Assistant (TA). In this unique dual role, you will provide essential health support to students while also assisting classroom teachers in engaging students in academic and social-emotional learning activities.
This is a great opportunity for LPNs who are passionate about supporting students’ overall well-being and gaining experience in a structured, therapeutic educational environment.
What You’ll Do
- Provide day-to-day health support to students, including basic assessments, medication administration, and monitoring.
- Assist in managing student care plans and ensure proper documentation.
- Support classroom engagement and assist teachers with academic and behavioral activities when not performing nursing duties.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, school nurses, counselors, and administrators to support students’ educational and emotional progress.
- Foster positive relationships with students and provide a compassionate, consistent presence in the classroom.
- Help students gradually integrate into general education settings and participate in field trips and other school activities.
- Build communication and care coordination skills by working closely with families and multidisciplinary school teams.
Experience you will need:
- Active LPN license in Massachusetts (or ability to transfer an active license).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to stay calm and patient in high-energy or emotionally complex situations.
- Willingness to support students with autism, behavioral health challenges, and nonverbal communication needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in school-based or pediatric nursing.
- Interest or experience working in therapeutic educational settings.
- Enthusiasm for working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support student success.
