Job SummaryNorth Andover Behavioral Health is seeking a compassionate and skilled Group Therapist (1099 Independent Contractor) to facilitate therapeutic groups for individuals working toward improved mental health and well-being. The Group Therapist will be responsible for developing and leading evidence-based group sessions, fostering a safe and supportive environment, and helping participants build skills for emotional regulation, resilience, and interpersonal growth. While structure and consistency are important, creativity and flexibility are encouraged in how the Group Therapist designs and facilitates groups, allowing space for innovation and responsiveness to client needs. The ideal candidate is a licensed mental health professional with strong group facilitation skills, clinical insight, and a commitment to empowering clients on their path to recovery and wellness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and facilitate group therapy sessions using evidence-based practices (CBT, DBT, psychoeducation, skills groups, etc.).
  • Create a supportive, inclusive, and engaging group environment that encourages participation and growth.
  • Adapt and individualize group content creatively to meet the unique needs of participants.
  • Establish and reinforce group norms to promote safety, respect, and confidentiality.
  • Monitor group dynamics and intervene effectively to ensure emotional safety.
  • Collaborate with other clinicians and staff to support client treatment goals.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including group notes.
  • Bring creativity and innovation to group programming.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field required.
  • Active Massachusetts license (LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, or equivalent) or license-eligible.
  • Prior experience facilitating therapeutic or psychoeducational groups strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based modalities (CBT, DBT, trauma-informed care, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to balance structure with creativity and flexibility in group programming.
  • Commitment to ethical practice, cultural sensitivity, and client-centered care.
