Job Description

Job Description
Summary

Neighborhood Schoolhouse is hiring a one-to-one aide to support a six year old child’s inclusion within the newly re-opened kindergarten classroom. Responsibilities include implementing strategies determined by teachers and specialists to meet the child’s behavioral needs to enable them to access the general curriculum more fully.

Duties

The 1:1 will provide direct support to the child in the following areas:

  • Being physically gentle with their body toward other children and objects when they feel an impulse or experience a trigger.
  • Navigating transitions and routines through clear, straightforward instructions.
  • Understanding and upholding classroom expectations.

The one-to-one aide will work approximately 3.5 hours/day with their assigned child. The schedule will be Monday-Friday 8:30-12:00. Much of this time will be within the larger group during outdoor play, indoors for lunch and circle time, and during indoor/outdoor transitions.
Successful candidates will have training and current certification in nonviolent conflict prevention and intervention, training in behavior intervention, the ability to follow a behavior plan that includes specific scripts to support the child’s learning to appropriately communicate their needs and feelings, and the ability to implement behavior tracking strategies such as checklists to help the child monitor and regulate their behavior. Successful candidates will possess strong communication skills with adults and enjoy collaborating as a team with classroom teachers, specialists and the family.
One aspect of this role is learning in a child-led, nature-based program. Successful candidates will enjoy learning alongside children and going outside in all weather.

Requirements

■ High school diploma or GED
■ 2+ years of prior experience with young children
