Job Opportunity: Travel Phlebotomist-Donor Room Apheresis
Department: Laboratory – Donor Services
Location: Hyannis, MA
Contract Length: 14 Weeks
Hours: 40 hours per week

Pay Rate (Travelers): $30.00/hr (W2)

Schedule Details

  • Rotating Day Shifts:
    • 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM
    • 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
    • 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
    • 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
    • 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
    • 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Workdays: Monday – Friday
  • Additional: Occasional weekends and holidays

Position Summary

The Donor Care Specialist is responsible for organizing, recruiting, and collecting blood donations through programs designed to meet the needs of the hospital. This role ensures donor safety, regulatory compliance, and service excellence while supporting both onsite and offsite blood collection initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Donor Care & Phlebotomy

  • Perform donor screening to determine eligibility in accordance with Client's, CDC, FDA, AABB, and CAP standards.
  • Perform whole blood collections and therapeutic phlebotomy procedures.
  • Conduct blood collections at both the donor center and offsite blood drives.
  • Obtain appropriate blood specimens from donors and patients.

Processing, Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare and label blood components and samples for testing.
  • Accurately document donor records, deferrals, and data entry in the computer system.
  • Ensure all quality control standards are met.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of departmental and hospital policies, including fire and disaster plans.

Inventory, Safety & Operations

  • Perform daily inventory and replenish donor care supplies as needed.
  • Communicate supply needs to the Supervisor or designee.
  • Maintain clean, sanitary, and clutter-free work areas to ensure safety.

Service Excellence & Support

  • Assist with donor recruitment activities.
  • Consistently provide service excellence to patients, donors, families, visitors, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience & Certifications

Donor Care Specialist I

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Prior phlebotomy experience required
  • National certification or completion of an accredited phlebotomy program preferred
  • BLS Certification required
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Proficiency with computers/laptops

Donor Care Specialist II

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • One (1) year experience as a donor phlebotomist preferred
  • Working knowledge of blood groups, Rh types, and donation procedures
  • BLS Certification (must be maintained)
  • DPT (ASCP) or QDP (ASCP) Certification required and must be maintained
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Proficiency with computers/laptops
