Position Summary
The Plant & Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all plant equipment and facilities. Safety is the top priority, followed by driving reliability, minimizing downtime, and building a strong maintenance culture. This role blends hands-on technical problem-solving with leadership in maintenance strategy, training, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead safety as a primary responsibility, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and environmental standards.
- Support preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance programs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues through root cause analysis.
- Understand hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical control systems and be able to troubleshoot problems as they arise.
- Develop and support execution of an asset management strategy, including CapEx planning and justification.
- Lead and champion Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program activities.
- Assess and implement training programs to build skills, instigate continuing education, and grow technician capabilities.
- Partner with production teams to improve uptime, OEE, and cost performance.
- Coordinate vendors and contractors for maintenance and capital work.
- Provide additional training as required, including outside training for staff.
Qualifications – Core Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or equivalent experience).
- 3–7 years’ experience in maintenance or plant engineering.
- Proven ability to lead teams with integrity, build trust, and foster a safe working environment.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Metrics-driven mindset with focus on uptime, reliability, and continuous improvement.
Preferred Skills (not required, but a plus)
- Familiarity with TPM, Lean, and Continuous Improvement practices.
- Experience with budget management or cost control.
- Exposure to ISO certification and audit processes.
- Knowledge of CMMS systems and engineering design tools (AutoCAD/SolidWorks).
- Reliability or maintenance certifications (CMRP, Six Sigma, etc.).
