Basic Function

Provide 1:1 peer support to mentees, including individuals who are new to navigating their disability. Work closely with the supervisor and Peer Support staff to support the recruitment, training, matches, and develop the best practices that promote a positive and productive relationship with the mentee and mentors.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support by phone and in person to consumers as requested either by internal or external referral sources.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with mentees of the program.
  • Conduct presentations and other outreach activities routinely and as requested.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of the Peer Mentor Program.
  • Network to increase community awareness of the Peer Mentor program.
  • Ensure the success of the Peer Support Program as a core service of GSIL.

Other Responsibilities

  • Participate in general GSIL events, training and activities.
  • Support and uphold GSIL policies and procedures, workplace regulations and safety practices.
  • Share newsworthy information appropriately throughout the organization.
  • Complete required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Obtain resources and information on disability related issues to present to group members.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned that will increase options for persons with disabilities to live independently in their communities
  • Participate in Peer Mentoring Training.
  • Travel throughout the state and across state lines may be required.


Education/Training/Education

Personal experience as recipient of Consumer Directed services. Must have a passion for the Core values of CIL and knowledge of consumer directed services. Strong oral and written communication skills essential. Outreach experience, advocacy, and small group presentation skills. Must have reliable transportation to perform job functions.
