Position: Summer Camp Activity Specialist

Department: Lower School Auxiliary Programs

Location: Junior Building, Milton Academy Campus, Milton, MA

Hours: June 8 - August 7. Week-long commitments preferred,

schedule negotiable

FLSA: Exempt

Classification: Staff (Seasonal–Summer)

Salary Range: $20-26.00 per hour contingent upon experience

Summary of Position:

This is a seasonal position beginning in late May and ending in early August. The Activity area leader will be responsible for planning and implementing engaging, age-appropriate programming each day. The activity area leader will have experience leading children in various activities, and ideally experience in a summer camp environment. The activity area leader is enthusiastic, self-motivated, creative, and flexible.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Activity Specialists are responsible for initiating and implementing a program within a particular program area. These program areas could include but are not limited to: science, sports and games, arts and crafts, gardening, acting, nature/wildlife studies, technology, robotics, performing arts, archery, etc.

  • Will work in tandem with counselors to provide meaningful, enriching programming for campers

  • Work with the camp administrative team to plan daily and weekly activities within their activity

  • Communicate regularly with Camp Director in regards to supply and support needs, scheduling, and any camper issues

  • Responsible for keeping their work spaces clean and ready for each class period

  • Use weekly supply budget to maximize programming

  • Be willing to assist with any additional camp needs

  • Be present for weekly staff meetings

Supervision to be received: Reports directly to the Summer Camp Director

Supervision to be exercised: Direct supervision of campers

Experience Preferred: Must be at least 18 years old. Previous experience working at a summer camp or similar leadership roles with children.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including GoogleSuite, Microsoft Word, and Adobe.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.

  • Understanding of confidentiality and related issues.

  • Receptive to supervision and professional development.

  • Desire to be a part of a dynamic educational community.

Physical Abilities

Required:

  • Must be able to work at a computer for up to 8 hours each day in conjunction with OSHA requirements.

  • Must be able to move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction.

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
