Job Description

Job Description About the role

As a Precision Opto‑Mechanical Assembly Technician, you will turn detailed visual work instructions into high‑reliability electro‑mechanical and optical assemblies. You will report to a Supervisor/Manager and collaborate closely with inter‑company teammates across production and quality.

A day in the life

You begin in a clean, organized workspace, verifying ESD protections and reviewing visual aids. You set up your bench, select hand and power tools, and get to work on fine‑pitch soldering tasks, including shielded cable terminations and wires‑to‑host connections. Throughout the day you build to print, verify conformance against IPC‑610 workmanship standards, and document your results. You keep the area spotless, help a teammate troubleshoot a tricky assembly, and complete a complex build that demands sound judgment and patience. Your craftsmanship directly influences product quality.

What you'll do

  • Assemble electronic, mechanical, and optical sub‑assemblies to product specifications using detailed visual work instructions.
  • Perform fine‑pitch soldering, including shielded cable work and wires‑to‑host connections, using soldering equipment and related tools.
  • Operate hand and power tools and dedicated assembly equipment safely and effectively.
  • Apply quality procedures to ensure assemblies meet IPC‑610 workmanship and internal standards.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and ESD‑safe workstation and comply with clean‑room practices when required.
  • Own the quality and accuracy of your work; proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Leverage experience and judgment to plan work, accomplish goals, and at times informally guide others on complex tasks.

Scope and collaboration

  • Interfaces: Inter‑company personnel across production, engineering, and quality.
  • People managed: None; may act as an informal lead on specific builds.
  • Decisions: Relies on experience and judgment to execute a variety of complex tasks.
  • Impact of error: Direct impact on product quality.

What you bring

  • Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within electro‑mechanical assembly.
  • Proven soldering skills (fine‑pitch; shielded cables; wires‑to‑host).
  • Experience working in clean‑room environments and following ESD protocols.
  • Excellent knowledge of IPC‑610 workmanship requirements and working knowledge of IPC standards.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Adaptability in a fast‑paced setting and the creativity to solve novel build challenges.

Education and experience

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Working knowledge of IPC; IPC‑610 proficiency strongly preferred.
  • Experience with optics preferred (e.g., assemblies involving lenses).
  • 3+ years of relevant assembly experience.
