Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000
Manager: Executive Vice President of Engineering
FLSA: Exempt
Location: Boston, MA but (could be Remote)
Overview of Position
Under Oakwell’s Real Estate Optimization program, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will work closely with the Oakwell team and its client’s facility staff to accomplish the following.
- 1. Evaluate existing energy consumption/carbon emissions and benchmark site
- 2. Reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions
- 3. Reduce energy cost
- 4. Establish a sustainability master plan
- 5. Renew infrastructure and move towards electrification
- 6. Align sustainability efforts with facility real estate master plan.
- 7. Create sustainable MEP building construction standards
- 8. Improve resiliency
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate existing site energy utilization, carbon emissions and benchmark against similar facilities.
- Audit facility to gain an understanding of existing MEP systems, condition, operating parameters, age, etc. and document
- Review existing condition drawings and other pertinent information.
- Interview facility staff to obtain additional information pertaining to plant operations, system deficiencies, idiosyncrasies, etc.
- Retro-commission existing mechanical systems including central plant, air handling,
- terminal equipment and energy management systems.
- Prepare a list of long, medium and short return on investment energy conservation
- measures (ECMs) that will reduce site energy consumption and cost
- Estimate savings with the use of custom spreadsheets and energy modeling software
- Estimate ECM cost with feedback from preferred contractors, means data and experience from previous similar projects
- In collaboration with senior engineers and the client, conceptualize a 10 year sustainability and decarbonization plan for the site.
- Prepare written reports describing existing conditions, recommendation, cost, savings, ROI, etc.
- Complete Technical Assistance studies as required by utility companies for efficiency incentives.
- Take part in presentations to clients to present Oakwell’s findings and recommendations.
- Prepare detailed scope of work narratives, EMS points list and EMS sequence of operations for pricing by contractors and vendors.
- Prepare scaled drawings and specifications for installation and modifications of mechanical systems.
- Lead construction meetings for the implementation of ECMs.
- Commission new systems and control recommendations.
- Assist in tracking ECM and sustainability master plan progress and results.
- Prepare sustainable MEP building standards for client
- Peer review renovation and new construction drawings to ensure design complies with sustainability master plan and building standards.
- Maintain collaborative relationship with client’s technical and facility staff.
- Continuously identify technical opportunities that can benefit Oakwell and its clients.
- Provide expertise that facilitates the creation, implementation and expanded use of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other efficiency/digitization tools and
- processes related to engineering and real estate optimization within Oakwell.
- Build collaborative relationships with other teammates at Oakwell to standardize
- individual and benchmarked data capture related to both environmental factors and
- financial performance.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 10 years as a Mechanical Engineer
- Professional Engineering License,preferred
