Development Engineering Technician II
Shift: M-F 1st Shift (start time between 7-9am)

Position Overview

  • The role is for Development Engineering Technician 2 at a company that builds mammogram machines.
  • The position is temporary for six months with the possibility of extension.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support electrical and mechanical testing in the research and development lab.
  • Responsibilities include troubleshooting mechanical assemblies, collecting test data, and making assembly changes.
  • Candidates may also assist with engineering documentation and part fabrication if they possess the necessary skills.

Candidate Requirements

  • Candidates should have at least two years of experience in electromechanical troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with reading engineering drawings and using mechanical and electrical tools is required.
  • A high school diploma is acceptable; no college degree is necessary.

Interview Process

  • Initial screening will be conducted virtually or in person.
  • Selected candidates will be invited for onsite interviews to assess hands-on skills.
  • Interviews are expected to start early next week after candidate submissions.

Soft Skills and Team Fit

  • Candidates should be adaptable and able to communicate effectively with engineers and management.
  • The team currently consists of 12 engineers and 2 technicians, indicating a collaborative environment.

Future Opportunities

  • There is potential for conversion to a fulltime role depending on performance and headcount availability.
  • Recent graduates with relevant experience may be considered for the technician role.

Work Environment

  • The position is onsite only, requiring full-time presence in the lab.
  • Expected working hours are 40 hours a week, with flexible start times between 7 and 9 a.m.


Notes from Intake:

  • Must be ONSITE (no remote work)
  • Actual hours are flexible, but 8 hours per day. Open to specific start/end times. Start time between 7 and 9 am
  • 3D printers but we can train general lab electrical/mechanical equipment such as force gauges, calipers, scales, hand tools, multimeters, computers, and if they are familiar already, fabrication using machine shop or soldering
  • Technology Requirements (I.E Programs, systems, etc.) Microsoft Office – required
  • Mechanical Aptitude – required
  • Electrical Troubleshooting – required
  • Quality Management System – preferred
  • SolidWorks – preferred
  • Python coding – preferred
  • 3D printing knowledge – preferred
  • What does a typical day look like? (daily tasks): Typical day will be assisting R&D engineers (Mechanical, Electrical, and Sustaining) in running experiments, troubleshooting failures, making equipment modifications, building prototypes, and reviewing engineering designs for usability. We also ask that this person coordinate calibration of equipment and maintain lab organization.
  • Depending on background, machining or soldering would be asked.
  • All work is done under the direction of engineering manager and/or senior engineering staff.
  • Preferred background/prior work experience? Electromechanical assembly and troubleshooting/repair experience is required.
  • Experience in medical device R&D setting is beneficial but not required.
  • Experience is data collection/measurement systems is beneficial
  • Experience conducting and documenting engineering testing is beneficial

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts components, modules, and system testing to approved protocols.
  • Creates, modifies, or assembles prototype electrical, mechanical, or software components as specified by Engineer
  • Records activities and results according to approved Engineering Documentation guidelines.
  • Provides input to protocols for components, modules, and or system testing.
  • Provides basic outlines and or flowcharts of procedures used to create, modify, or assemble prototype components.
  • Completes multiple tasks for one or more engineers in parallel.
  • May provide input to engineers for manufacturability, serviceability, or user friendliness of products in development
  • Participate in and coordinate calibration of lab equipment.
  • Ensure R&D lab and equipment is organized and adheres to 5S as needed.
