About this role:
The Development & Communications Intern supports KDC’s fundraising, events, and communications efforts. Working closely with the Development & Communications team, this role helps engage donors, coordinate events, and develop creative content that strengthens community awareness and support for KDC’s mission.
This internship is ideal for a student or early-career professional interested in nonprofit management, marketing, communications, or fundraising.
Compensation: $15-$20/hour | Schedule: Monday-Friday
Location: Foxboro, MA (based at KDC Headquarters, with travel to all KDC locations as needed)
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and digital tools (e.g., Canva, Constant Contact, or similar).
- Detail-oriented and able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative team player with a positive, proactive attitude.
- Ability to travel to local sites or events as needed (a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred).
- Able to commit to at least 20 hours/week.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Primarily office-based, with flexibility for hybrid work as approved.
- Occasional travel to KDC sites, community events, and off-site meetings (less than 50% of time).
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds (event materials, supplies, etc.) and participate in setup and logistics for events.
- Occasional evenings and weekends required to support events and campaigns.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Regular use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.
- Occasional standing, walking, and reaching during presentations or events.
What You'll Do:
Fundraising & Donor Support
- Assist with donation processing, acknowledgments, and data entry in the donor database (GiveSmart).
- Help prepare reports, mailings, and stewardship materials for donor engagement.
- Support annual giving campaigns and appeals through content creation and organization.
Event Coordination
- Contribute to the planning and logistics of fundraising and community events.
- Support vendor coordination, registration, volunteer communication, and event setup.
- Help create event materials such as invitations, signage, and thank-you messages.
Communications & Digital Engagement
- Assist in managing KDC’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) — scheduling posts, tracking engagement, and gathering content.
- Collaborate on creating newsletters, stories of impact, videos, and photos for campaigns.
- Gather and organize stories and updates from KDC programs to share across communication channels.
- Maintain media lists and contact databases for outreach and marketing efforts.
Team & Administrative Support
- Participate in department meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Provide administrative and logistical support for communications and fundraising initiatives.
- Contribute ideas for new ways to reach and engage KDC’s audiences.
