Job Overview:

Responsible for the installation, inspection, repair, monitoring, and maintenance of plant equipment, systems, and structures to ensure safe and efficient operation. Tasks include working on individual components and complex systems under limited supervision, depending on training and demonstrated ability. Assignments may involve scaffolding, locksmith duties, tool control, lubrication oil management, tooling repairs, and inspections.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform preventative maintenance on operating systems such as hydrolysis, distillation, fractionation, separations, logistics, or utilities under supervision.
Inspect and test equipment to identify damage or worn parts and assist in diagnosing malfunctions.
Read work orders, blueprints, or P&IDs to understand issues and determine necessary repairs.
Assist in repairing valves, pumps, and steam traps.
Reassemble repaired pumps using hand tools.
Utilize mechanical and power tools appropriately.
Assist with process equipment assembly and installation.
Lubricate equipment as directed.
Perform flange work as required.
Enter data into the work order system.
Maintain knowledge of and adhere to established practices, procedures, programs, and codes.
Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance, lubrication, surveillance, and equipment calibration.
Prepare and maintain reports, logs, records, and historical data.
Suggest improvements to maintenance methods, procedures, and predictive maintenance applications.
Provide guidance to other technicians or craft workers.
Maintain tools, equipment, and spare parts for station facilities and systems.
Participate in plant and department training; maintain proficiency in primary and secondary craft specialties.
Perform rigging to support equipment and material movement.
Maintain knowledge of the station's tagging and lockout/tagout program.
Assist in preparing and revising training programs, procedures, and PMs for the department.
Recommend termination of maintenance activities not meeting procedures, specifications, regulations, or accepted practices.
Recommend termination of activities jeopardizing safety or plant operations.
Responsible for snow removal and maintaining tool cribs and lube oil shop.
Participate in significant outages, performing designated outage positions and maintaining required training qualifications. Outage assignments may involve shift work and extended hours.
Perform other duties as required.
Education and Certification Requirements:

Required:

High school diploma/GED
Post-secondary certificate in Mechanic & Repair Technologies (preferred)
Successful completion of skills assessment
Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, torches, etc.
Knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance (lathe experience preferred)
Knowledge of safety and security equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies
Ability to perform routine equipment maintenance and determine necessary support
Ability to repair machines or systems using appropriate tools
Troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve operating errors
Critical thinking skills to evaluate alternative solutions and approaches
Ability to select appropriate tools and equipment for tasks
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Effective communication and information sharing to ensure safe working conditions
Comfort working in a dirty environment
Preferred:

Experience with manual lathes
Experience with manual milling machines
Travel Requirements:

Not required, except for necessary off-site training
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Tasks are performed in various weather conditions and may require PPE and confined space work.
Duties involve frequent walking, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 50 lbs.
Climbing stairs and ladders up to 120 feet.
Lifting equipment up to and exceeding 40 lbs.
Turning valves, moving handles, and working overhead.
Supporting annual shutdown activities.
Work Environment:

Tasks may occur in extreme cold and hot environments.
Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals/conditions; mandatory training required.
Work schedule may rotate and include holidays and weekends.
Uniforms and footwear allowance provided.
