POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Think Tank is a woman-owned small business with more than 27 years of proven success delivering exceptional IT and marine fisheries services to the federal government. We are currently seeking an ideal candidate for the position of Database Manager to support an upcoming proposal with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Résumé of successful candidate(s) will be included with our proposal.

The Database Manager is responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing relational and spatial databases to support ecological research, telemetry studies, and survey operations within the NEFSC PSD. This position ensures data integrity, accessibility, and compliance with NOAA data standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and manage Oracle-based relational and spatial databases for marine research data.
  • Develop and maintain data validation and workflow automation procedures.
  • Support integration of databases with analytical tools and web-based applications (e.g., RShiny).
  • Provide technical documentation and support to users; ensure metadata and security protocols are maintained.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree or higher in computer science, ecology, or related field.
  • More than 5 years of applicable experience
  • Strong proficiency with Oracle databases, SQL, and spatial data tools (e.g., ArcGIS).
  • Proficient in R and R shiny
  • Familiarity with managing telemetry, survey, and biological sample data.
  • Proficiency in data quality control, backup, and user support procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate with scientists and data analysts on cross-functional projects.
