Minimum 1+ years Paraprofessional or Special Education experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Located in Chicopee, MA, this full-time paraprofessional role supports a K-12 student in a life skills classroom environment. The position involves providing dedicated 1:1 assistance to a student with special needs, focusing on daily living skills, communication support, and safety throughout the school day. This assignment runs through June 25, 2026.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide toileting assistance, including dressing/undressing and diaper changing
- Escort the student to the nurses office three times daily for g-tube feeding (administered by nurse)
- Use hand-over-hand techniques to assist with assignments and activities
- Support student safety, engagement, and active participation in classroom routines
- Facilitate communication using the students iPad communication board and trial various supportive communication programs
- Communicate effectively with the student, who is mostly non-verbal and primarily uses gestures, nods, and pointing
- Bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates are preferred to aid family communication, though this is not required
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required, plus one of the following:
- Associates degree, or
- At least 48 college credits, or
- Passing score on formal assessments such as ParaPro or WorkKeys
- Previous school-based paraprofessional experience is a must
- Bilingual Spanish-speaking candidates preferred but not mandatory
Schedule and Location:
- Full-time position, 3537.5 hours per week
- Hours: 7:15 AM 3:10 PM
- Location: Van Sickle Academy, Springfield, MA
- Contract duration through June 25, 2026
