Position Summary
The Commercial Construction Superintendent leads and oversees all field operations on commercial building projects from pre-construction through project closeout. They are responsible for ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the quality standards set by the owner and design team.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Oversee daily onsite construction activities and provide direct supervision of field personnel and subcontractors.
- Coordinate and schedule trades, deliveries, inspections, and subcontractor performance.
- Maintain project schedules and adjust sequencing to minimize delays.
- Monitor work quality and ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and building code requirements.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety policies and OSHA requirements across all jobsite activities.
- Conduct regular site safety walks and toolbox talks; ensure corrective actions are taken promptly.
Communication & Coordination
- Serve as primary onsite liaison between project management, subcontractors, inspectors, owners, and design professionals.
- Communicate regularly about progress, risks, changes, and resolution plans.
- Document daily logs, change orders, submittals, requests for information, and field reports.
Budget & Documentation
- Track job costs and assist in cost control efforts.
- Review and approve subcontractor payments, timesheets, and supplier invoices.
- Maintain accurate project records for audits and closeout documentation.
Quality Control
- Implement and monitor quality control plans.
- Conduct inspections at key milestones and manage punch lists.
- Ensure project turnover aligns with contract requirements.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience managing commercial construction projects (General Contractor or Construction Manager context).
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and building systems.
- Proficient with project management software and scheduling tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel among project sites.
