Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A licensed Special Education Teacher is needed to support a specialized middle school program for students with significant support needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This full-time, contract position runs from ASAP through the end of the school year, with potential for extension. The role is based in a structured classroom environment serving six students, staffed with two paraprofessionals and additional 1:1 support personnel. The teacher will act as the teacher of record, providing instructional leadership, implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and collaborating closely with the classroom support team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary instructional leader for students with significant support needs, including those diagnosed with ASD
- Implement and monitor IEP goals and accommodations in accordance with state and federal guidelines
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals and 1:1 staff to create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment
- Support students with toileting and other personal care needs as necessary
- Manage and respond appropriately to behaviors including self-injurious behaviors (SIB), with sensitivity to sensory needs
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Massachusetts Special Education teaching license
- Experience working with middle school students, especially those with ASD
- Skilled in supporting students with sensory processing challenges and self-injurious behaviors
- Comfortable providing toileting support
- Ability to collaborate effectively with support staff and maintain professional communication
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of drug screening, fingerprinting, and background checks
- Reliable transportation and punctuality are essential
- Prompt communication regarding attendance or absences
