Position Summary:

The Manager of Grant Development and Strategy leads the organization’s grant development strategy to secure funding aligned with mission priorities. This role focuses on writing clear, compelling proposals, ensuring compliance with funder requirements, and cultivating strong relationships with institutional partners. The manager also supervises the Grant Writer/Manager, providing guidance and mentorship to maintain high-quality submissions and support organizational growth.

This is a full-time position that will operate on a hybrid remote/in-office schedule, with a minimum of two days per week in office in Worcester, MA.

Family Health Center of Worcester is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center that provides care for more than 30,000 patients annually in over 90 languages. This position requires the ability to respect and support the health center mission and the diversity of the community we serve.


Program Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Write clear, compelling, and persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and related materials aligned with organizational goals.

• Participate in the organization’s grant strategy, setting priorities for funding opportunities aligned with mission and long-term goals.

• Mentor grant writing staff to ensure high-quality, persuasive proposals and supporting materials.

• Identify and evaluate funding prospects from government agencies, foundations, and corporations, prioritizing opportunities that offer the greatest impact.

• Build and maintain strategic relationships with funders, including program officers and key decision-makers.

• Facilitate executive-level grant vetting discussions and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.

• Collaborate with Finance and Development teams to develop complex, multi-year grant budgets and sustainability plans.

• In collaboration with Manager of Grants Administration, monitor post-award compliance and maintain communication with funders, ensuring timely reports, contracts, and accurate grant records.

• Collaborate with Finance and program teams to monitor budgets and support fiscal management for multi-year awards as needed.

• Ensure all proposals meet compliance standards and are submitted on time.

• Oversee departmental systems for tracking submissions and awards.

• Contribute to organizational planning through needs assessments and case statements that inform fundraising strategy.

• Serve as a thought partner in shaping the Development Department’s overall philanthropy strategy.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

One of the following combinations of education and employment experience must be met in order to be considered for the position:

• Batchelor’s degree in related field required. Master’s degree preferred

• Extensive experience in grant writing and strategic development, with a proved track record of securing major awards from government agencies, foundations, and corporations.

• Deep understanding of compliance requirements for government and foundation funding

• Demonstrated success collaborating across departments to align grant strategy with organizational goals

• Familiarity with grants management systems and compliance tracking


Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive proposals and build relationships with funders.

High level of discretion and confidentiality, including adherence to HIPAA compliance standards.

Strong leadership and supervisory skills, including mentoring grant writing staff.
