We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Underground Transmission Engineer to join our team at K&A Engineering in remote in New England. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects that make a real impact in the energy and utility sectors. You’ll be part of a dynamic, people-focused team where your expertise, ideas, and contributions will be valued and celebrated.
Role Expectations:
- Serve as the primary technical lead for underground transmission line projects (69kV–345kV+).
- Provide dedicated engineering support to priority clients in the Northeast region.
- Lead design and analysis of UG transmission systems, including:
- Cable system design
- Thermal analysis
- Duct bank and manhole design
- Trenchless installations (HDD, jack & bore)
- Civil/structural interfaces
- Oversee preparation of engineering deliverables: drawings, specifications, calculations, and studies.
- Collaborate closely with our existing T Line team to integrate UG capabilities into our broader transmission portfolio.
- Act as a technical advisor to clients, supporting planning, feasibility studies, and project development.
- Mentor junior engineers and help shape future hiring needs as the UG practice grows.
- Support proposal development, scope definition, and client presentations.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and utility requirements
What we’re looking for:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering (PE preferred).
- 10+ years of experience in underground transmission line engineering with utilities, EPC firms, or consulting organizations.
- Proven experience delivering UG transmission projects from concept through construction.
- Strong understanding of cable systems, thermal ratings, duct bank design, and installation methods.
- Familiarity with relevant standards (IEEE, NESC, ASCE, utility specifications).
- Ability to work directly with clients, manage expectations, and provide high quality technical guidance.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Interest in helping build and lead a growing capability area is a plus.
Pay Range: $130,000 to $165,000/annually
